In SC a notary can perform a wedding ceremony. As I mentioned in the article, if a couple plan to have a handful of family members witness their marriage, a notary can probably handle a short civil ceremony at their home. If they are planing to invite more, the couple should hire a professional. Every year I get SEVERAL calls from frantic brides because the person that was supposed to solemnize their marriage bailed on them on short notice. It is more involved that most would think to write a heartfelt wedding ceremony and deliver it in front of 25 - 300 guests Thanks, Brenda Owen Wedding Officiant & Minister http://WeddingWoman.net
